Blocked, bored, cramped, or stuck in a rut with your writing? Will you clean your bathroom tiles with a toothbrush rather than get down to work? Would it serve your writing practice to loosen up, have some fun and feed your creativity?
Over seven sessions, Victoria will guide you through a series of generative writing exercises designed to overcome resistance, access the deeper reaches of your imagination and evade the internal censor. Some exercises will focus on craft, others will lead with a theme or premise. Take part in beautiful experiments and leave with tools that will help your writing practice longterm.
There will be prompts, readings, discussions – and you’ll have an opportunity to share your work in the final session. Expect to come away encouraged, with a deeper understanding of what makes for great writing, and a notebook full of story ideas.

VICTORIA GOSLING is a British author. In 2021, her debut novel BEFORE THE RUINS was published by Serpent’s Tail (UK) and Henry Holt (USA). It was a LitHub “Most Anticipated” book of 2021, received a star in Publisher’s Weekly, and was positively reviewed in The New York Times and The New York Review of Books. Her second novel BLISS AND BLUNDER was published by Serpent’s Tail in 2023 and was a Guardian Book of the Day, a TLS Summer Pick and a Grazia Summer Read. She is the recipient of a Hawthornden Fellowship and was awarded a research stipend by the Berlin Senate. Victoria is the founder of The Reader Berlin and the Berlin Writing Prize. Since 2011, she has been teaching workshops, mentoring writers and providing manuscript assessments. These days, she divides her time between Britain and Germany.
